Falling Leaves
Every year we say goodbye to summer- the air cools, the leaves change to orange and red and the Fall quietly settles in. With each passing year, I find myself loving this season more. Maybe it's the nostalgia of all, remembering the excitement of going back to school, the colors changing, cozy scents and the transition of the year- It stirs up something sentimental.
I’ve compiled some of my favorite songs to listen to in the Fall. Cuddled up in bed drinking tea or taking a walk under the changing sky. Some are old favorites that have stuck with me through the years, others are new discoveries I think perfectly encompass the new season.
Mac DeMarco has been a constant in my music library. His sound- intimate, casual and quietly evocative, feels at home whether he’s crafting instrumentals or weaving in lyrics. His instrumentation and lyricism shine through understated, vulnerable vocals. His genre of indie, psychedelic rock and lo-fi evokes a warmth that makes it especially comforting for fall.
Carina Marie is a soul-pop musician, vocalist and creative whose music manages to hold your hand and empower you at the same time. With a mature, warm voice, layered harmonies and vivid lyrics- Carina Marie is the queen of fall vibes. Her versatility shines across various styles, and this is one of my favorite tunes. The soulful orchestrations wrap you in comfort, while the nostalgic lyrics tug at your heart strings with every riff.
Al Green’s Lets Stay Together will forever live on my cozy Fall playlist. His music is a well of soul- heartbreaking yet cathartic, smooth and lush. The richness of his musical arrangements and power of his vocals never fail to strike an emotional chord. You can feel the welling of the horns, the steady beat of the drums and the groove of the bass. Fall has a balance of melancholy and comfort which Al Green’s music captures perfectly. It is a nostalgic track for me personally.
One of my all time favorite songs, and my favorite time to listen to it. Surrounded by the changing leaves, Ella’s buttery vocals paired with the intimate finesse of the piano feels like a slice of heaven. It’s a tender portrayal of a woman in love, moved to tears by her joy. It’s simple, it’s bare and it’s beautiful.
Fall has a way of stirring the heart and I hope some of these tunes can follow you through the season. What are some of your favorite songs to listen to in the Fall?
